The idea that one man’ s trash can be another man’ s treasure rings true for the tribes of the Omo Valley within Ethiopia, which use trash like damaged watches and bottlecaps to create beautiful fashionable headdresses and wigs.
The Omo valley houses numerous tribes, but the ones that will French photographer Eric Lafforgue spent the most time with were the Bana, Dassanech and Mursi. Along with modern civilization slowly creeping in to the Omo valley, the locals possess gradually been gaining access to new additions to their outfits, like soccer jerseys, hair clips and colorful wires.
Unfortunately, the advance of Western technology also offers considerable drawbacks. With the completion of a hydroelectric dam downriver, many people will lose their ancestral lands and will be forced to resettle in modern funds, where they may lose their beautiful traditions forever.

What if it was like your first hug? What if you met someone, you kissed them, and then you introduced yourself? And then you built chemistry from that. ”

Ima Moteki, the design duo in Japan, just created a set of Nameless Paints that aim to completely change the way children learn and think about color. Instead of using color names, each white-colored tube of paint is classed with an “equation” showing which major colors, and in what proportions, were used to make the color inside.
The “ Nameless Paint” designers, Yusuke Imai and Ayami Moteki, believe that color labels are usually problematic. “ By not assigning names to the colors we want to expand the definition of what a color can be, and the various shades they can make by mixing them, ” stated Imai.
In addition to rejecting labels, the paints also teach color theory. The equations within the paint tubes help children understand some of the basic concepts behind color theory and how to mix and create new colors.
